Delhi Security Tightened As Centre Deploys 20 More CRPF Companies Amid CJP Protests

New Delhi: Amid the ongoing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protests, demonstrations by political parties and the Monsoon Session of Parliament, the Centre on Wednesday has ordered the deployment of 20 additional companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in New Delhi to handle the security, officials said. 

What is the reason of increasing security?

The ongoing protests in the national capital, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and the NEET paper leak, have expanded significantly. Maintaining security in the city poses a significant challenge. 

The Central government on Wednesday has ordered deployment of 20 additional companies of the CRPF in Delhi to strengthen security measures. 

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Tuesday night ordered the immediate deployment, following which the CRPF personnel were being airlifted from Kolkata to the national capital.

What is the reason of deployment?

The development comes after the violent clashes during the lastest protests which needed immediate reinforcement. Official sources in the security establishment said that a total of 20 CRPF companies are being brought from West Bengal to Delhi to strengthen law and order in view of the CJP protests, demonstrations by various political parties, and the ongoing Parliament session. They said this immediate deployment was necessitated by several incidents of violent clashes at several places during the recent protests.

Official sources said these companies were sent to West Bengal a few months ago for the assembly elections. After the elections, they were asked to stay back at the state government's request.

A CRPF company consists of approximately 100 soldiers. Thus, if 20 companies are called in, 2,000 soldiers have been called to Delhi.

According to officials, the central government has provided around 30 companies of CRPF and its special anti-riot unit Rapid Action Force (RAF) to the Delhi Police to strengthen security in view of the protests by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) and the monsoon session of Parliament which began on July 20.
